This year at Arts & Music in the Gardens we are excited to be hosting a Silent Auction as a fundraiser. Please visit the Pavilion at Arts & Music in the Gardens (August 12 & 13) to view the items on auction and place your bid.

To view a list of items, please visit the Silent Auction page HERE.

One of the items on auction was donated by our front desk volunteer, Louisa Bartlett. Here is a description of the beautiful hand made quilt she created during Covid.

COVID Quilt Number One by Louisa Bartlett

Quilt is made of 100% cotton strips of material from left over mask material, sewn on to cotton backing, trimmed and sewn together in a modified “String Quilt” pattern. Quilt batt is 100% cotton, back is 100% cotton.
During COVID, I quickly realized that there was an opportunity to re-invigorate my love of sewing. In the past I have made small quilts for children and babies, as well as clothing and household items. This quilt allowed me to use some of the “quilters stash” that I had brought with me when we moved from Edmonton 3 years previously and the growing piles of cut off materials from the making of mask that I was doing. It also kept me out of trouble…as the garden project I planned was coming to an end and my husband was quite willing to have a break.
In a way, this quilt was my way of thanking the Gardens of HCP for giving me back the pleasure of enjoying the outdoors, flowers and an opportunity to meet and enjoy people.
The quilt took approximately 3 months to finish… as I could only spend about 10 – 12 hours a week working on the quilt as I had started sewing cotton masks for the Gardens at HCP gift shop.
The quilt is approximately 96 x 106 inches and is meant to be a King-sized coverlet or a queen-sized quilt and is valued at $1200.
